The Beauty of Botox® Treatments – Simple and Fast – Winkles Be Gone!

Botox® Cosmetic used by the Straith Clinic, located in Metro Detroit, Michigan, is the trade name of Botulinum Toxin Type A. Botox® injections are performed by the Straith Clinic’s plastic surgeons who have administered many wrinkle treatments for many patients who have trusted in and benefited from our cosmetic rejuvenation expertise for decades. In addition to Botox® Cosmetic , dermal fillers such as Juvederm®, Restylane®,and Radiesse® can be used, in tandem, to restore youth to an aging face and allowing you to enhance and shape facial contours. The beauty of Botox® treatments is that you’ll be in and out of our office without any downtime because Botox® injections are simple 10-minute, non-surgical procedures usually requiring no anesthesia.

What is BOTOX® Cosmetic?

BOTOX® Cosmetic can temporarily smooth moderate to severe frown lines between the brows in people from 18 to 65 years of age. It is the only treatment of its type approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Within days there's a noticeable improvement in moderate to severe frown lines between the brows. Results may vary. BOTOX® Cosmetic is a purified protein produced by the Clostridium botulinum bacterium, which reduces the activity of the muscles that cause those frown lines between the brows to form over time. In 2007, almost 12 million procedures were performed with FDA-approved BOTOX® Cosmetic. In clinical trials, nearly 90% of men and women surveyed rated the improvement in the appearance of frown lines between their brows as moderate to better one month after BOTOX® treatment. Results vary. The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery ranked BOTOX® Cosmetic as the most popular wrinkle treatment in the United States for the fourth year in a row (surgical and nonsurgical combined).

Plastic Surgery pioneer Claire Straith, M.D., D.D.S.'s, vision continues through the work of Doctors Enrique Sabbagh, M.D.; William Sabbagh, M.D., F.A.C.S.; and Lawrence Tong, M.D., F.R.C.S.C., F.A.C.S.; all of whom are experts in cosmetic plastic surgery of the face, nose, breast, and body.

How does BOTOX® work?

Those moderate to severe frown lines between your brows form over time as the result of muscle activity. BOTOX® Cosmetic is injected directly into the muscles between your brows. It works by blocking the transmission of nerve impulses to the injected muscles; this reduces the activity of the muscles that cause those persistent lines to form.

How long does BOTOX® last?

Results from treatment with BOTOX® Cosmetic can last for up to 4 months. If you discontinue treatment, the frown lines between your brows gradually will look like they did before treatments.

When will I see results from a BOTOX® treatment?

Within days, you may see a marked improvement in the moderate to severe facial frown lines between your brows.

Will my facial expressions continue to look natural?

Although the results are visible, a wrinkle treatment with BOTOX® Cosmetic will not radically change your facial appearance or make you look as if you had work done. The muscle activity that causes frown lines between the brows is simply reduced, so you can still frown or look surprised without the wrinkles and creases between your brows.

Who should not use BOTOX®?

BOTOX® Cosmetic should not be used in the presence of infection at the proposed injection site(s) and in individuals with known hypersensitivity to any ingredient in the formulation. Patients with neuromuscular disorders such as ALS, myasthenia gravis or Lambert-Eaton syndrome may be at increased risk of serious side effects.

Is treatment with BOTOX® painful?

Discomfort is usually minimal and brief. Prior to injection, your physician may choose to numb the area with a cold pack or anesthetic cream.

Will I experience any BOTOX® side effects?

The most common side effects following injection include temporary eyelid droop and nausea. Localized pain, infection, inflammation, tenderness, swelling, redness, and/or bleeding/bruising may be associated with the injection. Patients with certain neuromuscular disorders such as ALS, myasthenia gravis, or Lambert-Eaton syndrome may be at increased risk of serious side effects.

The Anatomy of the Wrinkle

The wrinkle lines that appear between your brows (glabellar lines) actually result from muscle movement and the passage of time. After years of crinkling and wrinkling, those glabellar lines start to linger longer and can become more pronounced. For women, whose faces tend to be more animated than men's, and whose skin is typically more delicate, these lines may appear exaggerated and more permanent. Fortunately, there is a way to temporarily reduce moderate to severe glabellar lines.

The Injection and Recovery Process

The day of your Straith Clinic appointment allow time before your appointment for filling out forms and for consulting with a member of our staff. If it's your initial visit, you may first meet with your doctor personally or licensed aestheticians and nurses who are trained in skin care treatment and skin care procedures who can answer many of your questions. You may also be asked about your expectations for wrinkle and skin rejuvenation treatment and if you have any allergies or any condition that wouldn't make you a good candidate for BOTOX® Cosmetic.

Before the procedure. As mentioned, no anesthesia is required, although we may choose to numb the area with a cold pack or anesthetic cream. Discomfort is usually minimal and brief.

The BOTOX® procedure. Our specialists will determine where to administer the injections by examining your ability to move certain muscles in your brow area. As mentioned, BOTOX® Cosmetic injections take approximately 10 minutes.

How often is BOTOX® injection treatment recommended?

You'll probably want to get on a BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment schedule, so you can properly maintain your positive results. You can safely receive injections with BOTOX® Cosmetic up to every 4 to 6 months.
