Our Brow Lift Surgery Approach

How is an eyebrow surgery performed? Multiple surgical approaches can be used by our surgeon to get the desired effect. The most current technique, called an endoscopic forehead lift, involves the use of a surgical telescope to elevate the brows and smooth forehead wrinkles through small incisions made behind the hairline. Endoscopic surgery is less invasive than the traditional approach, and the scars are much smaller. The endoscopic approach is typically best suited for patients who do not have deep horizontal lines across the forehead or a lot of loose skin on the forehead. Also, a browlift can be performed alone or with other cosmetic procedures such as a face lift, eye lid surgery, or chemical peel if our surgeons determine that this is appropriate for you for the best outcome.

A mid-forehead lift is intended for patients older than 65 who have heavy sagging eyebrows and the deepest forehead wrinkles. To bring about a more youthful look, our surgeons make incisions within the deep forehead wrinkles and removes the excess skin, fat and muscle. Incisions are made within the deep wrinkles so that the resulting scars are hidden and not very noticeable after healing.

A coronal forehead lift or traditional forehead lift is performed by making an ear to ear incision across the forehead and elevating the entire forehead and brow.

Frequently asked patient questions about eyebrow lifts:

Q1: What happens during the brow lift postoperative period?

The eyes are not bandaged. There will be swelling and discoloration around the eye area which will diminish gradually. Redness of the eyes, if present, disappears gradually. Slight blurring of vision, tearing and sensitivity to bright light may occur. The intensity and duration of these conditions vary with each individual. All sutures are usually removed by our brow lift surgeon on the seventh day.

Q2: When can I wash my hair and/or use makeup?

The hair can be generally washed anytime after eyebrow surgery. The healing process may cause your surgeon to change these instructions. New facial makeup can be applied to cover up any bruising as early as three days after surgery, but not on the incisions. It is important to gently remove all makeup.

Q3: When can I resume my social activities?   

Normally, full social and employment activities can be resumed three to seven days after eyebrow surgery. Strenuous exercise and activities such as sports should be avoided for two to three weeks. The healing process, your occupation and the judgment of our brow lift surgeon may cause the length of time to vary.
