How to Ensure a Successful Tummy Tuck Recovery

If you are thinking about undergoing a tummy tuck, you must be prepared for your recovery period to ensure you can heal successfully. The tummy tuck is among the most popular cosmetic surgeries and more than 125,000 procedures are done each year in the US alone. However, in the absence of careful planning, the recovery time can be longer and you could be susceptible to complications if you aren’t well-prepared!

Usually, your recovery time would be about 2 weeks after the tummy tuck surgery. This is when you are able to return to your work and normal routine. The recovery time, however, depends on how extensive your procedure was. Here are some ways by which you can reduce your recovery time and heal well:

Follow your surgeon’s instructions

If you wish to recover faster from your tummy tuck, you should do everything that your surgeon suggests. When you do not follow their advice, you put your health and your results at risk! You must engage in various activities slowly to avoid complications and heal properly. You should always consult your surgeon before introducing new activities that you’re not sure you’re ready for.

Get help during the recovery time

It is important that you have the right support during the post-surgical time. You will need an extra pair of hands to help you around the house and with pets or children. Talk to a family member or friend to be with you for the first 48 hours, since it will be difficult for you to stand up, get off the bed, shower or put on clothes.

Be comfortable when you are resting

Ensure that you are comfortable when resting. Use 2 to 3 pillows behind your head and one under your knees to give your body the proper support. It is important that you do not stretch your abdomen and put any pressure on the incision site and sutures while they heal.

Plan a quality diet

It is important to consume a healthy diet both before and after your surgery. Healing foods like pineapple which contains Vitamin C should be increased and fatty foods should be reduced. You should also avoid foods that are too salty as this can dehydrate the body. Eat small portions at regular intervals and drink adequate amounts of water throughout the day.
