Straith Clinic Medi-Spa: Injectables

No matter who you are, you cannot escape mother nature and father time.  However, there are many ways to temporarily turn back the hands of time, and injectables are some of the simplest options. Unlike invasive surgical procedures, injectables do not require going under the knife, and the downtime is much less.  For fillers, the results are almost instantaneous.  In the case of neuromuscular toxins, the results are in full effect by one week.  Having a glowing, smooth, youthful appearance is a common goal for millions of people worldwide – injectables can be the way to reach that goal! Injectables are used to contour the face by relaxing muscles to smooth wrinkles or by filling in deeper facial folds to lessen the signs of aging. The process only takes a few minutes, and there are many popular options that are available. These include:

What Are Injectables & How Do They Work?

There are three basic types of injectables that are used at medical aesthetic facilities. This includes neuromuscular toxins, soft tissue fillers, and skin enhancers.

To enhance your youthful glow, neuromuscular toxins, such as Botox, paralyze specific facial muscles that cause wrinkles.  This acts to smooth existing wrinkles and help prevent future wrinkles from occurring in that area.

Soft tissue fillers are used to replace the volume that has been lost via the aging process.  Soft tissue fillers include products such as Juvéderm, Voluma, and Volbella.  Soft tissue fillers use hyaluronic acid, a natural molecule found in the body, to inject in and below the skin to plump the target area.  The target area may be enhanced volume in the cheek or lip, or it may be to fill in the lines from nose to mouth or from mouth to the chin, which has deepened with age.

Skin enhancers, such as platelet-rich plasma, can nourish the skin, stimulating collagen levels and cell turnover to improve skin tone.  Platelet-rich plasma is typically applied topically during a microneedling treatment.

Things to Consider About Injectables

The key to knowing which injectables are right for you is to set up a consultation with a plastic surgeon.  This gives your physician a chance to examine your unique face and gain an understanding of your personal needs and goals.  Then, a plan can be tailored just for you regarding what type of injectables should be placed and where.  The injectable process itself has minimal pain, mostly just the pinch of the needle.  Minor swelling and bruising can be expected for a short period of time. Serious risks, such as allergic reactions or infections, are rare.  Neuromuscular toxins, such as Botox, last on average 4-6 months.  Soft tissue fillers vary in their duration – with products like Juvéderm lasting 6-12 months on average and products like Voluma lasting 12-24 months on average.
