Your Breast Lift Recovery Timeline
Go BackAfter undergoing breast lift surgery, you may be wondering how long it takes for your body to heal from the procedure. Recovery from breast lift surgery is a process that varies from person to person, depending on the severity of your procedure and any underlying medical conditions you may have. Regardless of the length of time it takes, you will eventually begin to feel better as time goes on and most patients do not have issues recovering from this cosmetic surgery.
First Two Days After Breast Surgery
When you leave the hospital after breast lift surgery, you will be requested to do follow-up visits with your doctor to remove drainage tubes and bandages. You will also be advised to avoid taking a shower and instead use a sponge bath. The doctor will also examine the healing process of your breasts. You may start experiencing some pain during the first three days but taking your pain medications as prescribed will help you with the discomfort.
Three to Five Days After Breast Surgery
The doctor will likely recommend putting on a compression bra to support your breasts while your incisions heal. This will help reduce the amount of swelling you have. You might experience some discomfort and feel a bit nauseous so try to rest as much as possible.
Three Weeks After Breast Lift Surgery
At this time, you will be able to shower again, but you should avoid swimming, as this could reopen your incisions and cause infections. Your discomfort and pain should have decreased significantly so you can resume normal activities, but you should still avoid strenuous exercise and activities. During this time, the shape and size of your breasts will have started to improve after the second week so you can start seeing results.
Healing of Incisions after One Month
The incisions from your breast lift surgery should heal one month after the procedure. Scarring will be minimal at this time of recovery and you will notice that your breasts are getting firmer and fuller.
When to Resume Normal Activities After Surgery
You can resume normal activities after one week. However, you should avoid extreme physical activity that could strain your chest muscles unnecessarily for at least four weeks. If you experience pain, you should follow the doctor’s instructions about how to treat the pain. You should also wear the compression bra for about six weeks after surgery. After this, you will be able to gradually reduce the wearing time of the garment and get back to wearing your normal bras.
