Male Breast Reduction (Gynecomastia Surgery)
Male breast reduction gets rid of excess fatty tissue or excess breast tissue causing men to have larger breasts. This is a condition known as gynecomastia, and it affects adolescent and older men. Gynecomastia can cause emotional discomfort in men, affecting their self-confidence and self-image in situations where they may normally take their shirt off. Overdeveloped or enlarged breasts often go away on their own, but if they are persistent, many men turn to surgical solutions such as gynecomastia surgery to regain their masculine contours. At Straith Clinic, we offer male breast reduction surgery to patients with gynecomastia and enlarged male breasts.
Gynecomastia can have many causes, such as hormonal changes, certain drugs such as anabolic steroids, weight fluctuations, prescription medications, alcohol use, and more. Our plastic surgeons will review your medical history and lifestyle to determine any possible underlying causes.
Gynecomastia Procedure
Dr. Sabbagh Explains male breast reduction
The Male Breast Reduction Procedure
During gynecomastia surgery, an incision is made following the lower border of the areola and the excess breast tissue is removed. The incision usually heals with very little noticeable scarring. When the composition of the enlarged breasts is mostly fat, liposuction can be performed instead of excision. In some cases, the combination of both procedures is performed. In severe cases, excess skin may also need to be removed and the nipple and areola moved to a higher position.
