Liposuction Surgery

A liposuction procedure is performed to remove excess fat deposits without conspicuous scars as are possible with more invasive plastic surgery procedures. The purpose of liposuction surgery is to improve and normalize body contours that don’t respond to diet and exercise. Nearly all body areas, with certain exceptions, can be treated. Liposuction is often combined with other cosmetic surgery procedures. Our board-certified plastic surgeons can assess how much fat can be safely removed with this surgical procedure.

Liposuction Benefits

Liposuction remains a popular choice for body contouring around the country each year. Among its many benefits are:

  • Permanent results
  • Enhanced body contours
  • Targeted fat removal
  • Boosted confidence
  • Expanded clothing options
  • Better mobility
  • Customizability and versatility

The Procedure & Best Candidates

Liposuction is not a cure for obesity, nor is it a substitute for weight reduction. The best candidates are patients who are within 30 percent of their optimal weight with good skin elasticity. It is also important that patients are non-smokers with specific goals for their body contouring procedure. The tumescent liposuction technique involves injecting the areas of fat to be removed with a solution of saline and local anesthetic. This numbs the area, decreases blood loss, and allows for easier fat removal. This technique is sometimes known as traditional liposuction and produces reliable results for patients with basic fat removal needs.

Assisted Liposuction

Liposuction alternatives are becoming more available each year. They can offer many additional benefits, and Drs. Sabbagh and Baca will help you select the best option.

Ultrasound Assisted Liposuction

Ultrasonic-assisted liposuction in West Bloomfield is a procedure that uses the tumescent technique and high-frequency sound waves to liquefy the fat, which is then aspirated. It is used on selective body areas. A thin tube, called a cannula, is then inserted through small incisions to dislodge fat cells using a back-and-forth motion. The surgical vacuum attached to the cannula suctions excess fat away.

Liposuction Combination Procedures

Liposuction is most commonly combined with other procedures to enhance results. Some of the most common liposuction combination procedures include:

Fat Transfer

During fat transfer, liposuction is the first stage of treatment. Fat tissue is collected before being injected into areas like the face or breasts to enhance fullness, restore youthful volume, or correct asymmetries.

Tummy Tuck

Liposuction is often combined with tummy tuck surgery to further contour the area. While the tummy tuck addresses the stomach, liposuction can remove pockets of fat from surrounding areas such as the hips or thighs to create a more comprehensively improved figure.

Mommy Makeover

The mommy makeover combines multiple procedures such as liposuction, breast augmentation, and tummy tuck. These are designed to restore your body to its pre-pregnancy state and reverse many of the effects of childbearing.

Liposuction Recovery

Following liposuction, patients must wear compression garments in the treatment area to help heal and prevent swelling. Healing will be gradual; most patients can return to work within a few days of surgery. Patients must stay out of the sun for at least six weeks to prevent scarring. Following your surgeon’s post-operative instructions is important for a quick and safe recovery

Results of Liposuction

After liposuction, you will see a noticeable improvement in your body’s contours and overall appearance. These results can be long-lasting if you maintain a healthy and active lifestyle to prevent weight gain. For many patients, liposuction results can be life-changing and significantly improve their confidence.

What are the Risks?

No surgical procedure is risk-free, and that includes cosmetic surgery like liposuction. During your consultation with Dr. Sabbagh or Dr. Baca, they will review the risks so you can make an educated decision.
