A thigh lift is performed to correct sagging skin and fat of the inner thighs.
What to Expect
- Anesthesia – Usually local with IV sedation
- Length of Surgery – 2 to 3 hours
- In / Outpatient – Generally out-patient in our accredited on-site surgery center or in a hospital setting.
- Recovery – Back to work in 2-4 weeks – strenuous exercise and activities such as sports must be restricted for six to eight weeks.
- Fading of Scars – Several months to one year
- Duration of Results – Thigh lift results may last several years, although gravity, aging, and weight changes may affect your results.
An incision in the groin crease is used to excise the redundant skin and fat. This excision could extend all the way around the leg, pulling up three to four inches of thigh skin and fat, thus reducing the sagging and possibly improving the “cellulite” and/or bubbling appearance of the skin of the upper thigh. Sometimes, a vertical incision is used, which extends from the inside of the thigh from the groin to above the knee.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a thigh lift Cost?
The cost of your thigh lift procedure will depend on the techniques being used, your location, and the surgeon you choose. The cost of your procedure will be gone over in detail during your initial consultation.
Will a thigh lift get rid of cellulite?
A thigh lift can remove excess skin and tissue and some stubborn fat, improving your contour, however, the procedure is not meant to treat cellulite. If you struggle with cellulite, talk to your surgeon about other treatment options.
How dangerous is a thigh lift?
Like any surgical procedure, a thigh lift comes with some side effects and possible complications. However, when performed by a board-certified plastic surgeon like Dr. Sabbagh, a thigh lift is a very safe procedure.
How do you get rid of loose skin on your thighs?
Moderate to severe loose skin on the thighs can be removed with thigh lift surgery.
How do you prepare for a thigh lift?
Before thigh lift surgery, you want to be at a stable weight. You will also need to stop smoking. Avoid taking aspirin and anti-inflammatory drugs for two weeks. These substances can increase bleeding and swelling. You may also need to adjust certain medications that you are taking.
How long is recovery from a thigh lift?
Most patients can return to work within two weeks, but full recovery often takes 4-6 weeks or up to 8 weeks for some patients.
What is an inner thigh lift surgery?
An inner thigh lift surgery removes excess skin and fat and tightens the remaining skin on the inner thigh.
Where are the scars for a thigh lift?
Depending on which technique is used for your thigh lift, you will either have a scar extending along the crease of the groin or extending vertically from the groin to the knee on the inside of the thigh.
Can you get lipo on your inner thighs?
Yes! Liposuction on the inner thighs is a common procedure that can eliminate stubborn fat to tone the thighs. You may be a candidate for liposuction if you do not already have loose skin.
How are thigh lifts done?
Thigh lift surgery is performed in the operating room. Depending on the amount and location of sagging skin, an incision will either be made along the groin crease of the inner thigh and potentially also from the groin to the top of the knee. That incision allows the excess skin to be removed, which then tightens the remaining skin. Excess fat is removed as well and sometimes liposuction is performed at the same time.
