- Blepharoplasty Eyelid Surgery In Bingham Farms, Mi
We perform blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) near Dearborn and West Bloomfield. Eyelid surgery is known medically as blepharoplasty. Blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure that improves the upper and lower eyelids. The goal is to remove excess skin and bulging fat in the upper and lower eyelids which helps to visually brighten and rejuvenate the eyes. Procedures targeting each area are called upper and lower eyelid surgery respectively. During eyelid surgery, the muscle may also be tightened depending on need. The result is a more youthful appearance to the periorbital region. It may also be beneficial to people whose sagging upper eyelids obstruct their vision. If you have excess skin in your upper lids and sagging lower eyelids, you may be a good candidate for blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery).Blepharoplasty surgery can be performed alone, but it’s commonly performed at the same time as a facelift. This can ensure a more complete result with the appearance of your eyelids.

What Is an Eyelid Lift and How Does It Work?
An eyelid lift (also known as a blepharoplasty) is a type of cosmetic surgery outpatient procedure that is designed to remove excess skin from the eyelids. It can address sagging upper lids, excess skin, fine lines and wrinkles, and bags under the eyes. If the sagging eyelid skin is enough that it blocks your vision, it may improve your peripheral vision as well. An eyelid lift can be done on the upper or lower lids or both.
Signs You May Be a Good Candidate for Eyelid Surgery
If you are in good overall health, have realistic expectations, and are a nonsmoker, but struggle with sagging upper or lower eyelids, drooping skin, under-eye bags, and lines and wrinkles, you are likely a good candidate for lower or upper blepharoplasty.
As always, the best way to determine if eyelid surgery is right for you is to schedule a consultation with Dr. Baca or Dr. Sabbagh. After reviewing your medical history, discussing your goals, and examining your eyes, they can build a treatment plan that’s right for you.
Upper vs. Lower Eyelid Lift: What’s the Difference?
The main difference between an upper and lower eyelid lift is the treatment area and what the procedures can address. An upper eyelid lift primarily removes excess eyelid skin with some removal of excess bulging fat if needed. This procedure can decrease the heavy, lidded appearance of your eyes to create a brighter, more open appearance, and maybe even improve your peripheral vision.
A lower eyelid lift, on the other hand, primarily removes the bulging lower eyelid fat or “bags” while also removing excess skin to create a smoother, younger appearance.
Benefits of Blepharoplasty for a Refreshed, Youthful Look
You can look forward to a variety of different benefits when you have a blepharoplasty at Straith Clinic. One of the major benefits of blepharoplasty is that it can make your eyes look more open and less tired. This also translates to you looking more youthful. On top of that, many patients notice a significant boost in their confidence. When you love what you see in the mirror, that will carry over to every aspect of your life.
The results of a blepharoplasty are also long-lasting. Patients can expect to see results for 5-7 years or longer. Keeping up with good skin care can help maintain results for even longer! While surgery does not stop the aging process altogether, it resets the clock to a more youthful appearance.
What to Expect Before, During, and After Eyelid Surgery
Before your eyelid surgery, there are some steps you’ll want to take to ensure you’re ready for surgery. You’ll want to limit your alcohol intake, stop taking any blood thinners, quit smoking if you’re a smoker, and stick to a healthy lifestyle with plenty of water.
On the day of surgery, we’ll start by administering IV sedation to ensure you’re comfortable throughout the procedure. From there, Dr. Baca or Dr. Sabbagh will make incisions in the natural creases of the eyelid to ensure they are barely visible afterward. Through these incisions, they will remove excess skin and fat, lift sagging skin to a more youthful position, address under-eye bags, and tighten underlying muscles. Once everything is done, the incisions will be closed.
After your eyelid surgery, you will likely have some swelling, bruising, and discomfort, but those side effects will dissipate as you heal in the following days and weeks. You will want to continue to avoid alcohol, smoking, and blood thinners. You’ll also need to rest as much as possible and avoid strenuous activities. Most patients can return to work in 1-2 weeks. Results will be mostly visible after a few weeks, but it can take a couple of months for the swelling to completely subside.
How Long Do Eyelid Lift Results Last?
How long your results last will depend on many factors: your skin quality, genetics, how well you follow the aftercare instructions and whether you perform regular skin care maintenance. The results of eyelid surgery typically last 5-7 years or longer.
Can an Eyelid Lift Be Combined with Other Facial Procedures?
An eyelid lift can absolutely be combined with other facial procedures. An eyelid lift can be done alongside a brow lift, facelift, and so much more. During your consultation, Dr. Baca or Dr. Sabbagh will build a customized treatment plan that meets all your aesthetic needs.
