Male Breast Reduction (Gynecomastia)
Male breast reduction helps to get rid of excess fatty tissue that is causing men to have larger breasts. This is a condition known as gynecomastia. It is a condition that affects adolescent and older men. It often goes away on its own, but if it is persistent then many men turn to surgical solutions to regain their masculine contours. At Straith Clinic we offer male breast reduction to our patients who have gynecomastia.
What to Expect
- Anesthesia – Usually local with IV sedation
- Length of Surgery – 1 to 2 hours
- In / Outpatient – Generally out-patient in our accredited on-site surgery center
During this breast reduction surgery, an incision is made following the lower border of the areola and the excess breast tissue is removed. The incision usually heals with very little noticeable scarring. When the composition of the breasts is mostly fat, liposuction can be performed instead of excision. In some cases, the combination of both procedures is performed.
