At the Straith Clinic, we rely on cutting-edge surgical techniques to deliver exceptional results to patients in West Bloomfield, Dearborn, and the metro Detroit area. The bra-line back lift is an innovative procedure that can address bothersome fat bulges and excess skin on the upper and middle back. Men and women who have been affected by aging or significant weight loss can benefit from this specialized body contouring procedure.

Bra-Line Back Lift

Fat bulges along the bra line and middle back are a common concern for men and women. Sagging skin also develops in these areas because of natural aging and weight loss. The bra-line back lift combines skin removal techniques with liposuction to eliminate excess skin and stubborn fat that is resistant to diet and exercise. Liposuction can also be used on the hips and waistline to address the entire back area and restore a smooth, toned appearance.

Who is a Good Candidate?

Ideal candidates for the bra-line back lift are healthy adults bothered by excess skin and fat on the upper-middle back area. If patients are receiving this surgery after massive weight loss, they should be at a stable weight for many months before surgery. Your medical history and treatment goals will be discussed at your consultation with Dr. Baca or Dr. Sabbagh to determine whether the bra-line back lift is right for you.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Am I a good candidate for a bra line back lift if I've lost a significant amount of weight?
Yes, you are a good candidate if you've lost a significant amount of weight, provided you're at a stable weight for many months and are healthy with excess skin and fat on the upper-middle back.
  • How exactly is the incision placed to hide it under a bra or swimsuit for a bra line back lift?
A horizontal incision is made across the back, positioned where it can be concealed under a bra or bathing suit.
  • How long does bra line back lift surgery typically take?
The surgery typically takes 3 hours.
  • Can a bra line back lift be combined with other procedures like a tummy tuck or arm lift?
Yes, it can be combined with other procedures like an arm lift, though this is determined during consultation based on your goals.
  • What's the typical recovery timeline for a bra line back lift?
Most patients return to non-physically strenuous work and light activities within 1-2 weeks, with moderate swelling and bruising common initially and full resolution in 3-6 months.
  • What restrictions apply, like no heavy lifting or reaching overhead?
Strenuous activity and heavy lifting should be avoided for several weeks; reaching overhead may also be limited during early recovery.
  • When can I shower or resume wearing regular bras after bra line back lift surgery?
Showering can typically resume within days per surgeon instructions, but specific timing for regular bras isn't detailed, compression garments are used initially to manage swelling.
  • How soon will I see final bra line back lift results, and do they last long-term?
Swelling improves greatly after 1 month but fully resolves in 3-6 months for final results, which are long-term with stable weight.
  • How many follow-up visits are required post-bra line back lift surgery?
The exact number isn't specified, but routine post-op monitoring is standard at the accredited on-site center to ensure proper healing.

The Procedure

During the bra-line back lift procedure, a horizontal incision will be made across the back where women can conceal it under their bra or bathing suit. Excess skin will be removed, and a small cannula will be used to break up and suction out the excess fat cells. The remaining skin will be carefully pulled up and stitched into place to tighten and eliminate unwanted folds and wrinkling and create a more toned appearance.

hourglass1-2 Weeks

Bra-Line Back Lift Recovery

Moderate swelling, bruising, and soreness along the incision line are common for the first 1-2 weeks after bra-line back lift surgery.  Swelling improves greatly after 1 month, but will not completely resolve for approximately 3-6 months. Patients will be instructed on compression garment use to help with swelling. Strenuous activity should also be avoided for several weeks but most patients can return to non-physically strenuous work and light activities within 1-2 weeks.
