If you’re concerned about longevity of an injectable treatment, then fat grafting is one option to seriously consider. A new study in Archives of Facial Plastic Surgery shows long-lasting results from fat grafting surgery around the eye area.
Doctors reviewed 99 patients to evaluate their results and see how long fat grafting lasted after aesthetic rejuvenation of the eye area.
The Duration of Fat Grafting Results
Most patients experienced a noticeable improvement, according to the study’s independent evaluators. Interestingly, 68 percent of the patients retained a mild aesthetic improvement at their 3-year followup date. The authors call the eye rejuvenation technique a “valid and effective” with “long-term potential effectiveness.”
How Fat Grafting Works
Fat grafting (also known as autologous fat transfer) moves fatty tissue from one part of the body to another. As the study says, fat grafting is effective for facial rejuvenation. Some surgeons also use it for body contouring procedures like gluteal augmentation.
With a syringe or liposuction cannula, your surgeon removes a small amount of fat from your abdomen, thighs or buttocks. After some brief preparation, the fat is injected in small amounts, to fill in depressions or augment areas of the tissue. Because some fat is likely to be re-absorbed by your body, a series of injections may be necessary.
